H.O.Y.A.S. Youth Basketball Academy 

H.O.Y.A.S. (Helping Our Youth Achieve Success) Youth Basketball Academy is a new program we have launched, in which we are able to take 5 teams (3 boys teams and 2 girls teams – 48 kids in all) traveling throughout the state to participate and compete in regional and national youth basketball tournaments. We are requiring that students maintain a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average in order to participate on a travel team, and provide homework assistance and tutorial support to help them achieve that goal. A key outcome of our travel team concept is to introduce young people to a broader view of the world than their limited neighborhood experiences will allow them. Some of our youth, difficult as it may be to believe, have never traveled outside of Berkeley. Many have never been across the Bay Bridge!
